Turmeric

tur·mer·ic

Turmeric is an amazing spice most commonly used in Indian cooking.
It is often seen in the ground form as a yellow powder but the original form of this spice is a root.

Origin: Turmeric is a tall plant that grows in Asia and Central America

Recipes: Turmeric is one of the main ingredients in making a nice base of Indian curry. Anytime you see a food that has a yellow tint, it is safe to assume it has turmeric in it. It can be used to flavor meats, vegetables and also rice dishes. Turmeric is always a staple in Indian cooking and is also used in Thai and Middle-eastern cooking.
There’s many wonderful recipes that can be found using turmeric but why settle on one when Bon Appetit has 49 amazing recipes.

Cures: One of the reasons turmeric has been known as such a wonder spice is its various cures. Turmeric is known for its inflammatory and pain reliving powers. According to the Medical News Today article, it has helped to relieve pain, improve liver function, reduce risk of cancer and improve digestion. Take caution as there can also be some side-effects when consuming turmeric in large amounts, more serious than turning yellow.

And tonight if you have trouble sleeping, you can also try a version of Golden Milk. This warm soothing drink does contain, you guessed it, a bit of turmeric. There are many recipes with the additions of honey and cinnamon to make this drink a bit more appetizing. I still can’t fully digest the golden milk made with warm milk but I have tried turmeric tea and that is pretty good especially when you think of all its health benefits! Enjoy!
